Bashas' (AJ's/Food City) Code of Conduct

Bashas' (including Food City and AJ's) requires that all troops boothing at their stores sign a copy of the Bashas' Code of Conduct Agreement. Please print this form and sign it and give it to the Bashas' manager. Several of the Bashas' managers have told us that we must observe all their rules or we will not be allowed to booth at Bashas' in the future.

Please note that Bashas' has lifted their restrictions and Brownies may booth at Bashas' stores this year. Please make extra effort to keep all younger children in control, and to follow the store rules and any instructions from the store management, as the store managers are very concerned for their customers' happiness.

Bashas'
Petitioning and Related Activities
Code of Conduct and Operational Guidelines

Bashas' has deemed it appropriate to make a commitment to the People of Arizona by establishing a policy governing a firm belief in public petitioning. As addressed by the 1st Amendment of the Constitution, it is the right of the people to peaceably assemble and petition the Government for redress of grievances. We intend no positioning in favor of or against any issue involved, only to allow, without prejudice, the people to exercise their rights.

The following provides a code of conduct we must insist upon for the consideration and safety of all the people whether they be customers of Bashas' or property cohabitants, members of Bashas' or employees of other business establishments, and all representatives or individuals of your organization as well. If any individuals, group, or members thereof fail to abide by the criteria established, Bashas' reserves the right to refrain from allowing petitioning and related activities to occur outside its stores. Due to restrictions placed upon us by previously entered into lease agreements, Bashas' also reserves the right to disallow petitioning and related activities at certain location.

  1. Formal written request must be submitted one week in advance to the local Store Director* providing organizational background, topic of interest, schedule of dates/hours requested (up to a maximum of four days/four hours per day per group), and names of the organization representatives authorized to participate (up to a maximum of two individuals at any one time) The name, address and telephone number of the organizational chairperson must also be provided if the individual will not be on site at all times. (See Acknowledgment or attach letter including information.)
  2. Organizations must provide their own supplies and equipment (i.e. tables, chairs, etc.) not to include the use of any type of public address system and handbills for distribution purposes. All equipment and petitioners must be at a minimum distance of 15 feet from any parking or building entrance/exit so as not to obstruct vehicular or pedestrian traffic in any manner. Organization representatives are also required to remain in the area provided so as not to obstruct vehicular or pedestrian traffic as well. All signage used must be affixed to a table, chair, or must be freestanding. The use of the building to display signage will not be permitted.
  3. All Organization Representatives must be 18 or older, or accompanied by an adult at all times. All authorized representatives must be clearly identified with name badges.
  4. Petitioners must realize they are Bashas' guests while in front of any store and should conduct themselves accordingly. The tactical use of abusive, foul and/or threatening or intimidating language, obtrusive behavior and physical contact of any kind by a member of your organization is strictly prohibited. While in front of the store, all group members must remain seated at their table and must not approach any Bashas' customer who is entering or exiting the store. Group members may not call out to customers who are passing by, and may verbally address only those individuals who are within earshot of normal conversational speech. The primary attraction to your table should be the signage your group attaches to it and your group should generally wait until you are approached by a passerby to discuss your cause and not the other way around.
  5. The space available for this purpose is limited to two organizations at any one time, provided both groups adhere to the above and no confrontations between the two occur. Otherwise both groups will vacate the premises immediately.
  6. All persons involved in this activity are assumed to be familiar with these rules and will further be assumed to have agreed to immediately vacate the premises at the request of Bashas' Store Management if, in the opinion of said management, these guidelines have not been observed.
  7. Solicitation of money and sales of goods and services are absolutely prohibited. Any exceptions are made at the corporate level for specific charities.

Please acknowledge acceptance of the Code of Conduct and Operational Guidelines provided on the attached form and return it with (or as) your formal written request to local Store Management. Thank you for your cooperation in this regard.
